BioLamina welcomes Karen Brown, PhD as Director of Sales, North America
Our team in the US is growing. We are very happy to have Karen Brown, PhD join us at BioLamina as our Director of Sales, North America!
Karen was recently in Sweden for her onboarding sessions. We took the opportunity to ask her few questions.
Could you tell us about your career history?
I earned my PhD in Immunology and then did a postdoctoral fellowship at the NIH [National Institute of Healthcare]. I decided to leave the bench and worked for 4 years at The Journal of Immunology. In 2007 I accepted a sales position at Miltenyi Biotec and I haven’t looked back.
I spent 10 years there before then joining the Cell & Gene Therapy Sales team at Bio-Techne. Now, in my current role at BioLamina, I will serve as the Director of Sales, North America.
Why did you choose BioLamina?
In researching the company and meeting with the management team, it quickly became evident that BioLamina has assembled a fantastic team of people and they offer amazing and much needed recombinant matrix proteins/products for the Cell Therapy space. I am honoured to have the opportunity to be part of something that will have a positive impact on Cell Therapy, and to be able to grow both personally and professionally.
What are your impressions after the first week?
I really enjoyed meeting and getting to know the team in Sweden. Everyone at BioLamina is smart, passionate about their role, and friendly, outgoing, and helpful. It was an amazing experience and I felt very welcome from the start.
Do you have a funny anecdote?
I landed at Arlanda airport [Stockholm’s airport] with what I thought would be a sufficient pair of boots for my trip, but I quickly learned that I was not equipped! It was snowing when I arrived, and it snowed all 6 of the 7 days that I was there!
My first attempt to walk to the office from my hotel in the snow, slush, ice and cold was slow and nerve wracking, as I had absolutely no tread on my boots. Then on day 2, when my colleague met me at my hotel and walked with me to the office, I knew that I was in trouble! She walked fast (understandable, as it was very cold!) and I could barely keep up with the boots I had. By Thursday I was able to find the Mall of Scandinavia and bought a perfect pair of boots for Sweden. Problem solved!
Warm welcome to Karen!
